A Guide to Getting a Pension


For many Americans today, retiring means uncertainty of all kinds, but most of all, an uncertainty in your income. While there are many ways to save your whole working life to avoid this, few beat the rock solid security of a vested pension. Although rapidly disappearing, pensions still exist in this day and age, and one should do everything they can to secure their retirement income. To find a job that still offers a pension, you have several routes; a government job, working for a union, an extremely large, traditional company, or a company based in the northeast or Midwest, where blue collar careers and industry still predominate. In addition, carefully consider what you do for a living, and focus on industries that still offer pensions, try to stay in a similar position during your career, and if possible marry someone else who has earned a pension.
