Weather it be drinking and driving, driving too fast, or recklessly driving, expect huge increases in your monthly payments. Even smaller violations, like driving without a seat belt, can nail you with an increase. The idea behind this is pretty logical: you have the potential to cost the insurance company a lot of money in the future. If the insurance companies find out that you’re increasing your chances by being negligent, they are make sure you cover the costs. Each state is a little different, but insurance companies have a pretty good idea which ones are most at risk. What they don’t know is how you drive until you get a violation.
