There are things that can be done to prepare for and prevent storm damage on Iowa farms. Dan Behrens from Farm Bureau Financial suggests both preventative and post-storm clean up measures. The suggestions begin with a discussion with an insurance agent to discuss coverage levels and adjustments if any maintenance or new structures will be implemented to face potential storm damage. Others include methods typical to any homeowner such as patching roofs and inspecting for sturdiness. In general, the goal is to make sure things can stand up to the forces of mother nature and protect livestock and crops. Post storm activities include similar tasks such as doing what patchwork is necessary and documenting in a notebook and with photos any damage to address and then speaking again with an agent.
